Description

The Royal Exchange was rebuilt during the 1840s to the designs of Sir William Tite. In the 1895 Leighton presented the first of a series of paintings by various artists used to decorate 24 large panels with illustrations of the history of trade, the Royal Exchange and the City of London. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that this photograph was taken for the Cornish Magazine.
