Sir Christopher Wren rebuilt St Clement Danes Church in 1680-82 with additions by James Gibbs in the early 18th century. The church, gutted by fire during the Second World War, was later restored in the 1950s. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that the photograph was taken for Reverend Septimus Pennington, Rector of St Clement Danes Church between 1889-1910.
