Description

The manufacturer's plate on the side of the generator shows that it was made by Walker Company of Cleveland, Ohio and was patented by S H Short. 'Engine no. 5677-8, built by The Ball & Wood Co. London & New York' is also painted on another manufacturer's plate at the base of the machine. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the name of the building as Port Dundas Station. However, as the photograph was taken for tram and tramway manufacturers Dick, Kerr and Company, this may be Pinkston Power Station, opened in 1901, built to provide electricity for the municipal tramways in Glasgow.
