Description

The date of this print is uncertain, or whether Thomas B Horner who signed the print is the artist, or an employee of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O). The print was made for the chairman and directors of the company and depicts the 'SS Hindostan', a paddle steamer which made its maiden voyage from Southampton to Kolkata in 1842, commanded by Commander Robert Moresby. The ship later sank in a cyclone off Kolkata in 1864. The photograph of the print was taken for W Taylor in Sep 1900.
