Description

The old Southwark Bridge, originally known as Queen Street Bridge, was designed by John Rennie and was opened in 1819. It was also known as the Iron Bridge, in contrast with London Bridge's nickname, the Stone Bridge. Old Southwark Bridge was renowned at the time for having the longest cast iron bridge span at 240 feet. The bridge was replaced by the current bridge in 1921.

This photograph was taken for the City of London Corporation.
