Chadwick Manor was built in 1875, for Gilbert Wilkes, a Birmingham manufacturer, who owned with his brother a company which supplied the copper wire for the transatlantic telegraph cable in the mid 19th century. The house was sold between 1883 and 1891 to Richard Ramsden, a magistrate, for whom this photograph was taken. The building has now been converted into flats.
