Description

The Rolls Chapel was a medieval building rebuilt in 1717-24, and was used as a residence for the Master of the Rolls, a Law Court and as a repository of the Chancery Records. It was demolished in 1896 due to being structurally unsound, and Sir John Taylor's extension to the Public Record Office was built on its site in 1892-6. This photograph was taken for Foster and Dicksee, Builders, who may have been involved with the chapel's demolition.
