Description

Number 1 Albert Gate was originally built in the 1840s as an exclusive private residence, to the designs of Thomas Cubitt. It has been occupied by the French Embassy continually since 1853. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that this photograph was taken for 'a gentlewoman'.
