The house, originally known as Roxburghe House, was remodelled by Robert Adam for the 3rd Duke of Roxburghe in 1776. In the 19th century it became the home to the Earl of Harewood and so became known as Harewood House. The daybook records that this photograph was taken for Bedford Lemere and Company.
