Apethorpe Hall, dating from the 15th century, is of particular importance because it incorporates so many architectural styles from a number of periods. For many generations the hall was the property of the Earls of Westmorland and was used to entertain Tudor and Stuart royalty. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that this photograph was taken for the Earl of Westmorland, presumably shortly prior to the sale of the house to Leonard Brassey in 1904.
