Description

An 'endowed bed' was a bed funded by a gift of cash from a patron. The plaque above this, the 'Queen Elena' bed, tells us that it was paid for by King Victor-Emmanuel III on the occasion of His Majesty and Queen Elena's visit to England in November 1903. The Italian Hospital was designed by Thomas W Cutler, and founded in 1884. The photograph was taken for the Hospital itself.
