Description

Foots Cray Place was built for Bourchier Cleeve in 1754. When this photograph was taken, the estate belonged to Samuel J Waring (junior), chairman of the well known furniture manufacturers Waring and Gillow Ltd. Waring improved the gardens and estate, including the construction of a new gate lodge. In 1949 the house was destroyed by fire. The following year the ruins were demolished and the grounds turned into a public park.
