Description

Dorchester House, completed in 1857, is attributed to Lewis Vulliamy for R S Holford although the Bedford Lemere daybook credits his nephew George Vulliamy. In 1905, Whitelaw Reid, the American Ambassador, rented the house, hosting many lavish functions here. After service as a hospital during the Great War, it was demolished in 1929 to make way for the Dorchester Hotel.
