Description

The original Liverpool Blue Coat Hospital and School was founded in 1708 as a place where economically-disadvantaged children could be accommodated and tutored. In 1899 the trustees took the decision to commission a new school building in what was then the countryside of Wavertree. The designs were by the architectural practice of Frank Gatley Briggs, Harry Vernon Wolstenholme Frederick Brice Hobbs and (Sir) Arnold Thornely.
