The Hotel Cecil was built between 1890 and 1896 to the designs of Perry and Reed and stood between the Thames Embankment and The Strand on the site now occupied by Shell Mex House. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the clients as 'Publicity Dep' assumed to be the Publicity Department of the Hotel Cecil.
