Description

This is the earlier Town Hall building, built in 1906 by R Frank Atkinson, FRIBA, in a style reminiscent of Sir Christopher Wren's public buildings. There is a later Town Hall extension on the adjacent Widmore Street, completed in 1939 by C Cowles Voysey. The image appears to have been manipulated after the negative's creation, resulting in the sky being 'faded' towards the edges of the frame. The Bedford Lemere daybook records that the photograph was commissioned by R Frank Atkinson, the architect of the building.
