Description

This copy photograph was commissioned by Alfred Vines, presumably the owner of the buildings in the picture. The original photograph was likely to have been taken between 1867 and 1900, judging by people's clothing in the image and by the date of the buildings' construction, and before the right-hand 8 bays of the building were demolished and replaced by the Vines Public House, perhaps named after the owner of this previous building. John Henderson was the proprietor of the Pavilion public house to the left of the range, to which he gave his name. It appears that the upper floors of the right-hand 8 bays may have been in use as a hotel at the time of the old photograph.
