Description

The Corporation of the Church House was founded in 1888 as the national administrative headquarters for the Church of England. The exact location of the Church House extant at the time of this photograph is unclear, but was likely to have been in Dean's Yard, near, or within, the site of the present 1930's Church House building. The organ case pictured was created by a firm called Elliot's, which may refer to a later firm resulting from the 1820's organ making firm, Elliot and Hill, or to Elliot's, a carpentry and joinery firm from Newbury in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
