The interior of the basement dining room at Challis's Hotel in Cranbourn Street
- Date:
- 2 Jan 1909

- Challis Hotel, Cranbourn Street, City Of Westminster, Greater London Authority, Wc2

The photograph was taken for Marmor Limited, marble merchants, to illustrate the marble decoration in the dining room. The Bedford Lemere also records J Lyons and Company as being associated with the location, probably because they were franchised to run the dining room as a Lyons cafe.
The London Directories do not give any reference to Challis's Hotel in 1908. It may be related to Challi's Royal Hotel, which stood in nearby Rupert Street in the late 1800s (see BL08907).
