Description

The Albemarle Club was established at 13 Albemarle Street in 1874. It featured in failed libel proceedings taken by Oscar Wilde, who was a member, against the Marquess of Queensbury. As a result of the scandal the club's membership decreased significantly, and after moving to the Dover Street premises, the club closed shortly after the First World War. Richard Crittal and Company, heating engineers, commissioned this photograph.
