Description

The core of the British Museum was designed by Sir Robert Smirke in the 1820s. However, this view shows construction of the King Edward VII galleries which were completed in 1914 to the designs of Sir John James Burnet. The Bedford Lemere daybook records the architects as J J Burnet and Son, but neither father John (1814-1901), nor son John James (1857-1938) ever practiced under this title.
