Sir Michael Livesey was born in 1614 and sided with the Parliamentarians during the civil wars, and was one of the people to sign the King's death warrant. Livesey fled to Holland following the Restoration. The photograph was taken for J Livesey. The painting is now held in the collections of the National Maritime Museum.
