The upmarket clothing retailer Austin Reed was founded in 1900 with the opening of its first store in London's Fenchurch Street. This branch on Strand was designed by Percy James Westwood, who was also the architect of Austin Reed shops in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh. He also commissioned the photograph.
A label removed from the negative said 'Do not use this neg Retaken'.
