The Hotel Metropole stands in the Leas, which at the time this photograph was taken, was the most fashionable part of town. The hotel was owned by Gordon Hotels Limited, owners of a number of luxury hotels in the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Although this photograph is from a batch taken for the company, this one was not used by them.
