Description

The General Buildings are a block of offices designed by Sir John Burnet and built between 1909 and 1911 for the General Accident Assurance Corporation, at the time of this photograph housing the headquarters and offices of a number of organisations including the Overseas Club. The buildings also housed the offices of the War Refugees Committee and the Belgian Labour section of the Ministry of Labour's Employment Exchange. This photograph was taken for Martin's Limited, who at the time were London's largest importer of cigars, with offices at 25 Haymarket and a sales room at 210 Piccadilly.
