Sledmere House originally dates from the 18th century, when it was built for Sir Mark Sykes, the 1st baronet. The photograph is one of a set taken for Sir Mark Sykes, 6th baronet, probably to show the restorations carried out by Walter Brierley. Sir Mark Sykes died two years later in 1919 of the Spanish Flu epidemic.
