Description

The National Physical Laboratory was opened in March 1902 with the aim of combining scientific knowledge with industry and commercial activities. During the First World War the NPL undertook research into aerodynamics and the stability of aircraft and parachutes. The photograph is one of a set of three taken for Archibald D Dawnay & Sons Ltd., specialists in steelwork and construction engineering.
