Description

At this date 'The Hawthorns' was a commercial college, teaching typing, shorthand, book-keeping etc., later to become part of Bromley High School which had opened premises in Elmfield Road in 1883. The photograph was taken for Mr William Bowman and Miss Shafto (probably Winifred Annie Shafto who is recorded as a headmistress living at The Hawthorns in 1911).
