The building at 19 Stratford Place had until 1914 been the home of the German Athenaeum Club. On the outbreak of war the club was closed, and in 1915 the building was let to the United Forces Club Company for the use of the Services Club. This was a club for officers of the army and navy. The photograph was taken for J McCandlish.
