Description

The Hotel Metropole was opened in 1885 as a luxury hotel in the heart of the capital. It was requisitioned as accommodation or government staff during World War One, re-opening as a hotel in 1921. This photograph documents the hotel's refurbishment at the time of the re-opening, and was commissioned by Hampton and Sons Limited, furnishers, who almost certainly participated in the refurbishment.
