Description

The SS Bismarck was launched in 1914, one of three sister German ocean liners sailing the Hamburg-Amerika Line. After the First World War, the Treaty of Versailles ordered that the ship be handed over to the British Government as part of the war reparations, and in 1919 she was purchased jointly by the White Star Line and Cunard, later to be renamed the RMS Majestic. This copy photograph was commissioned by the White Star Line.
