Description

A house has stood on this site since the medieval period. It was destroyed by fire in the Civil War and after being rebuilt was known as Burnt Stub. By the early 19th century it was known as Chessington Lodge but after being reconditioned in 1919 it reverted back to the name of Burnt Stub. In the Bedford Lemere daybook, Leonard Martin is recorded as the architect.
