The original structures at Esher place dated to the early thirteenth century, with a subsequent rebuilding in the fifteenth century. The structure was demolished once again in 1805 and a new building constructed from the materials, later incorporated into a wing of the present complex in the 1890s. This structure was designed by G T Robinson and Achille Duchene in the French Renaissance style for the future 1st Lord D'Abernon, Edgar Vincent, whose name is recorded in the notes field of the Bedford Lemere daybook.
The series of fourteen photographs was commissioned by Giddy and Giddy, land, estate and house agents.
