Description

This photograph was commissioned by the architects Mewes and Davis, who it seems were tendering for the commission of designing the new Lloyds Bank headquarters. Here they have utilised two earlier Bedford Lemere photographs (BL26304/003 and BL26304/004) as a basis for the design drawing, incorporating figures and structures captured in the photographs to give the image more realism and context. It appears that their design was not selected however; the headquarters were built in 1927-1930 on the site, to the designs of Sir John Burnet, Tait and Lorne.
