This is one of a series of photographic copies of Maurice Randall paintings showing Caernarfon Castle taken for the shipping company, Union Castle Line. Randall was employed on-board Union Castle Line ships before being commissioned as an artist by the company. According to legend Edward II was born at Caernarfon in 1284 and the infant was presented to the Welsh by Edward I at the castle.
