Prince Albert, Duke of York, married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in April 1923, the year this sketch was executed. In 1936, following the abdication of Edward VIII her husband became king. On his death, her daughter was crowned Elizabeth II and she became known as Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. This photograph, commissioned by the Amalgamated Press, was taken at Bruton Street, probably at number 17 her parents London address. The original artwork is now held in the Royal Collection.
