Description

The Anglican community of St John Baptist (formerly known as the Sisters of Mercy and Clewer Sisters) was founded in 1852 to help women who found themselves on the margins of society. The original convent buildings date from 1857, with additions in the later 19th century. This is one of a series of photographs taken for the architects George Frederick Bodley & Cecil Greenwood Hare who designed the southern extensions to the convent buildings in the mid 1920s.
