The original Devonshire House was built in the 1730s for William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire. The house was sold by the 9th Duke in 1918 and demolished to make way for a new office block with flats designed by Carrere and Hastings, built by Holland, Hannen & Cubitts. This photograph is part of a set showing Flat 40, designed by Oliver Hill and at the time occupied by Sir Albert Levy, tobacco merchant and philanthropist.
