Marketed as a way of preventing the spread of germs when using public drinking fountains, the disposable Dixie Cup was developed by Lawrence Luellen in America in 1907. It was first called 'Health Kup' but became known as the Dixie Cup in 1919. This photograph was taken for the General Superintendant's Department of the London Midland and Scottish Railway.
