Originally planned as a public house, the Lancashire and Yorkshire Arms was never granted a licence for the sale of alcohol. Instead it served as a cafe and restaurant, known to many simply as 'The Cafe'. The building visible to rear of 'The Cafe' was the L & Y Cafe Dining Rooms. It was demolished in 1972, but the Dining Rooms still stand.
