Description

Scarborough Aquarium, designed by Eugenius Birch and inspired by Hindu temples and Moorish architecture, was opened in 1877. The aquarium was not a financial success, however, and by 1925 it had been converted into an underground entertainment complex called Gala Land. The building was demolished in 1966.
