The first Adelphi Hotel was built in 1826 for James Radley, but this was replaced by a new building in 1876. In 1892, the hotel was bought by the Midland Railway and they oversaw the construction of the present building around 1912.
The room is identified in the original register of negatives as 'Coffee Room'.
