The company, Valor, was formed in 1890 in Birmingham and began selling heaters, first oil then paraffin, at the start of the 20th century.
Lawley Street Railway Station was opened in 1842, to the south of Vauxhall Road. It closed to passenger services in 1851 and from then on was used exclusively for goods trains. The original station was destroyed by fire in 1937 and the site was also targetted by enemy aircraft during the Second World War. It now functions as a container terminal.
