Description

Willowford Bridge was rebuilt at some point in the mid to late second century AD, after a flood swept away the eastern abutment and easternmost river pier. The lost span was replaced in timber, and the stair tower was enlarged and moved slightly to the east. Please see drawings IC048/033 and IC048/034 for depictions of the other phases of the bridge.

This drawing has a tracing paper overlay attached, which shows details of the original reprographic requirements (not technically part of the image, but important in understanding the use of the drawing). A note on the sheet reads 'Willowford Bridge, 92', and may refer to the locations/ publications where this illustration was to be reproduced.
