Description

Richard, Earl of Cornwall, was the younger brother of King Henry III and held the earldom between 1227 and 1272. During this period, Richard was responsible for huge construction projects at Launceston Castle, including the addition of stone perimeter fortifications, the insertion of the High Tower within the shell keep (here pictured), and the addition of the walls flanking the motte and the adjoining D-shaped tower.
