Description

The impressive hillfort at Maiden Castle was not the first monument to occupy the site, in fact the hilltop had been occupied since the early Neolithic period over 6000 years ago. This first phase of construction created an oval causewayed enclosure of two segmented ditches atop the eastern plateau, one of the earliest forms of monument in Britain.
