Description

The first cathedral at Old Sarum was consecrated in 1092 but damaged by a storm only five days later. The second cathedral is thought to have been begun soon after the year 1100. Only the 'footprint' of this first cathedral is known; the rest of this reconstructed interior is based on the plan of the church of La Trinité at Caen in Normandy. This illustration was reproduced on page 16 of the 2006 English Heritage guidebook for Old Sarum.
