Description

The Coleman Tower flanks what was originally the main entrance to the castle before the curtain wall and towers of the Outer Ward were added. Later it became the entrance to the Inner Ward, as is shown in this illustration. Within the Inner Ward is the New Hall, the top floor of which was used as a courtroom. The official appears to be gesturing towards the entrance, so perhaps this prisoner is being brought to trial.
