Description

During the early thirteenth century the wooden keep and timber palisade defensive walls of the Inner Ward were replaced with stone structures. However, the timber palisade defences of the Outer Ward remained until the fourteenth century. This illustration is one of three phased reconstructions showing the site from the same viewpoint at different phases of its development; see IC080/001 for a view of the early-twelfth century castle and IC080/010 for a view of the fourteenth century castle.

This illustration was reproduced on page 25 of the 1993 English Heritage guidebook for Pickering Castle.
