Description

This design sketch of a proposed viewing platform in the theatre was added digitally to a scan of a reconstruction drawing of the theatre interior (see separate illustration IC081/033), appearing to create a concept illustration for a potential reconstruction of the theatre in the Keep (see IC081/028. Note: the concept illustration, in the combined form, exists in digital format only).

It is thought that the interior decoration of the theatre conforms to the style of contemporary theatres on the Continent, and so the conclusion is that it may have been created for the French prisoners of the Napoleonic Wars who were kept at the site in the nineteenth century.
